Therapy in motion
For parents who find a therapy room constraining, or who want to combine movement with support.
Movement is one of the kindest things you can offer your mind.
When you're in the thick of early parenthood, exercise can feel like one more impossible task on an already overwhelming to-do list. But what if movement wasn't another chore — and instead became nourishment for your brain?
Research shows that regular physical activity can ease symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve sleep, boost energy, reduce stress, and even support the growth of new neural connections. For many people with mild to moderate depression, consistent movement can be a helpful part of care alongside other supports — though it isn't a substitute for medication when that's what you and your prescriber decide is needed (Blumenthal et al., 2007).
And the best part? You don't need to run a marathon. Gentle, everyday movement counts. A slow walk around the block. Stretching while your baby plays. Dancing in the kitchen. A few minutes of strength work. Every small action sends a message to your brain: I'm caring for you.
Walk & Talk sessions
If sitting in a therapy room doesn't always feel comfortable, we can meet outdoors for a Walk & Talk therapy session. Walking side by side often feels less confronting than sitting face to face, and many parents find that moving helps them think more clearly, breathe more deeply, and speak more freely.
What to expect
- Where we walk — routes near the clinic in Bundall, chosen for quieter paths where possible. We'll agree on a meeting point before your first session.
- Confidentiality — we walk in public spaces, so we'll talk about what feels okay to discuss outdoors and what is better saved for the room or telehealth.
- Weather — if it's wet or uncomfortably hot, we can reschedule or switch to in-clinic or telehealth at no extra charge.
- Your baby — babies in a pram or carrier are welcome. If your child needs more active supervision, in-clinic or telehealth may work better that day.
- Fee — Walk & Talk sessions are the same rate as in-clinic sessions ($250 for 50 minutes). See fees & rebates for details.
- Duration and pace — still a 50-minute session; we walk at a comfortable pace with pauses when you need them.
Movement doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be kind.
